Anne B. Kernan-Grunzke, M.D.

Dr. Kernan was born and grew up in Minnesota. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1989. After graduating, she married her husband, a naval officer stationed in southern California. Dr. Kernan earned her Medical Degree from the University of Southern California Medical School in 1996 and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Southern California Medical Center in 1999. She has been a practicing private pediatrician ever since, and joined Pediatric Associates of Alexandria in 2005.
Dr. Kernan is currently a member of the pediatric staff at the Inova Alexandria and Fairfax Hospitals. She has been Board Certified in Pediatrics since 1999, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is an associate professor of medicine at VCU medical school. She enjoys teaching medical students and residents in addition to caring for her patients at Pediatric Associates of Alexandria. When not in the office or hospital, Dr. Kernan volunteers in the classrooms of her two children, Jenna and Tyler, is a soccer mom, and an avid reader. Dr. Kernan also speaks Spanish.
